Extended Coverage
Extended Coverage, who is eligible and how to connect
Almost all of our plans qualify for Extended Coverage. You just need to be a postpaid wireless customer with a compatible device and with data roaming enabled (for access to data services). Extended Coverage is meant to provide additional coverage when the Rogers network is out of range or when your device is no longer connected to the Rogers network. Extended Coverage is intended for limited and occasional use. As such, the majority of your monthly usage must occur on the Rogers network. Wireless Home Phone, Wireless Business Phone, Rocket Hub, prepaid and zone-based or calling circle plans are not eligible for Extended Coverage.
When you travel outside the Rogers network and your device is no longer connected to the Rogers network, you get connected to Extended Coverage. It is also possible that your device will connect to Extended Coverage within the geographical areas covered by the Rogers network (including in major urban centres) when your device is no longer connected to the Rogers network. On most devices, you’ll see EXT or a roaming indicator on your device screen.
Stay connected wherever you are with WiFi Calling. Make or receive phone calls and send text messages wherever there’s a WiFi connection, including basements, condos and tall buildings.
How is usage billed when I am connected to Extended Coverage?
There is no additional charge to use your device with Extended Coverage. So any talk, text or data you use while connected with Extended Coverage is included as part of your current plan and will be billed in the same way as usage on the Rogers network.
How will the experience be different while connected with Extended Coverage?
Your device will always connect to the Rogers network if it’s available. Once you travel outside the Rogers network area, your device will automatically connect to Extended Coverage, if available. It is also possible that your device will connect to Extended Coverage within the geographical areas covered by the Rogers network (including in major urban centres). If you’re on a call when you connect to Extended Coverage, the call will drop. Once you see EXT appear on your device screen, you can call back to complete your call. A few enhanced features may not be available, including:
Wifi Calling
Stay connected wherever you are with WiFi Calling. Make or receive phone calls and send text messages wherever there’s a WiFi connection, including basements, condos and tall buildings.
Specific device or plan required.
To use WiFi Calling, you will need the following:
- A monthly postpaid eligible wireless plan. Prepaid customers can’t use WiFi Calling.
- An LTE/5G SIM installed in your device w/ a device that supports WiFi Calling
- Set your device’s WiFi Calling feature on so you can make calls and send messages over WiFi.
Your compatible device must have been purchased from Rogers. If you have a non-Rogers iPhone and no conflicting services, WiFi Calling may work, but we can’t ensure that the feature will work properly on your device.
