WHAT IS APPLE WATCH WITH ROGERS?
Rogers offers two ways to add an Apple Watch cellular line to your account: Companion mode (paired to your iPhone) and Standalone mode (its own independent line). Choose the option that fits how you or your family members use their watch.
APPLE WATCH COMPANION (PAIRED TO YOUR IPHONE)
A Companion Apple Watch shares your iPhone's number and plan. When your iPhone is nearby or on Wi-Fi, your watch makes calls, sends texts, and uses data through the same line — no separate plan needed.
Apple Watch Companion is ideal for customers who want their watch connected without managing a separate line or number.
APPLE WATCH STANDALONE — AN INDEPENDENT LINE
Rogers also offers Apple Watch Standalone plans, allowing you to activate a cellular Apple Watch with its own independent phone number and plan — no paired iPhone required for day-to-day use. This is designed for family members, kids, or seniors who need to stay connected without carrying a smartphone.
Key features of Standalone:
- Independent phone number — the watch has its own number; contacts can call and text it directly
- Location sharing via Find My — receive alerts when they arrive at a destination
- Messaging and calling — limited to approved contacts for added safety
- Schooltime mode — limits distractions during school hours
- SOS and fall detection — emergency calling and health safety features built in
- Up to 5 Apple Watch Standalone lines can be added per account
What you need to get started with Standalone:
- An active Rogers wireless primary line on your account
- An Apple Watch with GPS + Cellular
- An iPhone for initial setup and to manage settings (including adding family members)
- An Apple ID for the watch user
Good to know: Roam Like Home is not available on Standalone Apple Watch plans. If a customer already has a Companion Apple Watch, switching to Standalone is done through the Watch app on iPhone.
APPLE WATCH AND ROGERS SATELLITE
Apple Watch with cellular can connect to Rogers Satellite when paired with a compatible iPhone. This extends coverage to remote areas of Canada beyond traditional cell tower range, including text messaging and satellite-ready apps.
