Scam calls and texts are getting more convincing — including scammers posing as wireless carrier or dealer support agents. Here’s how to recognize them, what protections you can turn on today, and how we can help.
How to spot a scam call or text
- Pressure to act immediately — “your account will be suspended,” “confirm now”
- Requests for one-time verification codes, passwords, or full payment card numbers
- Links in unexpected texts asking you to “verify” your account or a delivery
- Offers that seem too good to be true, or refunds you weren’t expecting
Watch for imposter “agent” scams
A current scam involves fraudsters posing as carrier or dealer agents. They may ask you to order a device through your own account and then “return” or reship it to an address they provide. We will never ask you to reship a device to a different address, and we will never ask you to read back a verification code. If you receive a request like this, hang up and contact us directly using the number on our website or your invoice.
Protections you can turn on today
- iPhone: Settings → Apps → Messages → turn on Filter Unknown Senders; Settings → Apps → Phone → Silence Unknown Callers
- Android: in the Phone app, enable Caller ID & spam protection; in Messages, enable Spam protection
- Never tap links in unexpected texts — go to the website or app directly instead
Report it
- Forward suspicious texts to 7726 (SPAM) — a free reporting service
- Report fraud attempts to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca or 1-888-495-8501)
When in doubt, check with us
If you’re ever unsure whether a call, text, or email about your wireless account is legitimate, don’t respond to it — contact us and we’ll verify it with you.
